XL Bully Ban - How it will affect ABCR

As of the 31st of December 2023, the UK Government added XL Bully Types dogs to the list of dogs banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 in England and Wales.

It has now become a criminal offence to rehome, sell or transfer ownership of XL Bully dogs. From this date, rescue and rehoming organisations should not rehome XL Bully dogs.

All Bullie Charity will be adhering to this guidance, therefore we can not help or take in dogs that meets the characteristics of XL Bully breed Types that are outlined by the Government which is generally ‘a large dog with a muscular body and blocky head, suggesting great strength and power for its size. A powerfully built individual’.

Scotland has announced that they will bring in a ban of similar nature but nothing has been legally implemented at this current time - we will update this when further information is available.

This ban does not currently apply in Northern Ireland.
